Hole 2 (Par 4)
Tom Doak’s proposal
I’m not fond of the green site for this hole, so my suggestion is to shorten the hole considerably and put the green in the pocket just behind the left-hand fairway bunkers. This will produce a short par-4 similar to the 2nd at St Andrews Beach, where the long hitter has the option of trying to drive the green [either directly or sneaking one in around the right side of the bunkers], playing wide to the right, or laying up short of the bunkers and pitching over them. The new hole will bring the left-hand boundary a bit more into play, but if the green is shaped correctly, missing to the right will leave a tough up-and-down whether it’s for a 3 or a 4.
