Hole 18 (Par 4)
Tom Doak’s Proposal
The present 18th hole was the most disliked hole on the course in the member survey regarding the Ocean course, but the confines of the property we’re given make it imperative to use this corridor for the golf hole – and, to be fair, the last 150 yards going into the green through a switchbacking valley are quite attractive. So, our plan is to abandon the back tee, shift all players forward, and widen the fairway on the high left side, encouraging short hitters to drive up to the left where they can see the green more clearly and don’t have to carry so far to reach the crest. This green (as most others) needs reshaping to provide a better variety of hole locations, but it’s a great setting below the clubhouse and it’s only a matter of changing grades plus or minus one foot to correct its problems.
